Method 1. Import EML Files in Outlook via WLM

Before following the below given process, just make sure you have transferred your EML files in WLM application. Then you can follow the process:

Step 1. Open Microsoft Outlook and Windows Live Mail applications

Step 2. In Windows Live Mail application go to the File tab >> Export >> Email messages.

Step 3. Now, on the new tab of Windows Live Mail choose the Microsoft Exchange option under the “select the format you want to export” option. Then click on Next.

Step 4. After that click on OK to confirm the selection after receiving message “This will export messages from Windows Live Mail to Microsoft Outlook or Microsoft Exchange”.

Step 5. Now under the option “select the mail folders which you want to export from Windows Live Mail”, choose either the Selected Folders or All Folders. Now, click on OK.

Step 6. After the process finished, an Export complete box open and then, press on the Finish button.

Step 7. Once the export procedure is finished, it shows a message “Your messages were successfully exported”. And at the end check the migrated email files in Outlook email application.

Note: This process may lose your data, so it is better to save a backup copy file first before implementing the above described steps. Also, it does not works in a few rare cases.

Method 2: Import Emails from EML to PST File

Step 1: Open the Microsoft Outlook application and click on File >> Open >> Import. 

Step 2: Choose Import from another Program or File option. Click on the Next button.

Step 3: Choose Comma Separated Values option and then click on Next.

Step 4: Browse the imported file and then double click on it. There are three options showed: Replace duplicate with items imported, Allow duplicate to be created, Do no import duplicate items. Choose anyone by your choice and then, click on Next.

Step 5: Choose the folder or location to store the imported files and click on Next. Then, click Finish to complete the process.

As you know that Windows Live Mail, Windows Mail and Outlook Express supports EML formats. Hence, it is very important to you to know how to open these files into Outlook.

Windows Live Mail to Outlook:

Step 1: First copy and paste the EML files into WLM.
Note: If the EML data files are already in Windows Live Mail or configure in WLM then skip the above given step.

Step 2: Store Location: C:\Users\windowsusername\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail.

Step 3: Open WLM and click on File >> Export Email Messages >> Microsoft Exchange. Now, click on OK button.

Step 4: Now select the folders you wish to export and click on OK.

Windows Mail to Outlook:

Step 1: Save EML email files in Windows Mail store location: C:\Users\windowsusername\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail
Note: If you don’t have email data files in Windows mail.

Step 2: Open Windows Mail app and go to File >> Export >> Messages

Step 3: Select Microsoft Exchange >> Next.

Step 4: Choose folders which you wish to export and click on OK.

Note: MS Exchange is important with Outlook set as default application.

Outlook Express to Outlook

Step 1: Open Outlook Express and then choose all the EML files which you wish to move. Drag & drop the EML files in Outlook Express.

Step 2: Open Outlook app and go to the File menu -> Open and Export -> Import & Export.

Step 3: Select the Import Internet Mail & Addresses option.

Step 4: Choose the option Outlook Express >> Next >> Finish.
